A Poem on The Dark Days

The Cold is an all-encompassing feeling. It seeps past your bones, To the core of your soul. It covers your eyes in one-way mirrors, Transparent to the world beyond Yet within, The light is trapped, Bouncing Over and over again In the dark.
The Cold is an all-encompassing feeling. It kisses your lips in the morning simply to spite the sun. It steals your warmth in the evening, simply to spite the moon. In the quiet it creeps, In your bed it sleeps, Crawling right past your ear, And settling right there.
The Cold is an all-encompassing feeling. It steals your happiness and pockets your joy. It curves down your lips just after a smile, Robbing a little of the magnificent ecstasy of that great emotion. It whispers in your ear Your darkest secrets, And threatens the little candle that remains With the dare of a breath.
The Cold is an all-encompassing feeling. But it doesn’t need to be so. Sometimes all it takes is a voice, A few magic words — Any words. To break the spell that binds. Sometimes all it takes is a smile, To shatter the glass. And let the light within. And let the warmth within. And suddenly, Just like that, The Cold has no hold.
The Cold is an all-encompassing feeling. But watch how it fades before the fire. Look how it runs in the face of determination, Watch how it hides in the light of joy. The Cold has no hold if you are bold, And peek beyond the curtain to what you seek, And light the fire within with all your might, And create flame from candle, And furnace from flame, And set the world alight. For you are greater than just the dark, Just the quiet, Just The Cold
